Hunter Tierman
Ph.D. Candidate at The University of Florida
About Me
Hello, I am Hunter Tierman, a fourth-year Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Political Science at the University of Florida. My research focuses on American political institutions, with current projects analyzing presidential control of the bureaucracy, coalition formation in Supreme Court litigation, and the predictors of legislative success in China-related bills.
My dissertation examines the dynamics of presidential control within the executive branch, focusing on the Department of Justice and its component agencies. By analyzing institutions that are often viewed as among the most politically insulated within the federal bureaucracy, I explore the broader consequences of executive influence for bureaucratic independence, neutrality, and democratic governance.
I currently teach an undergraduate course on the U.S. Presidency. The course syllabus can be found here.
